Screening Job Candidates With Trello + Zapier

At DoSomething.org, we hire a lot of interns. Hiring a lot of interns means we have a lot of applicants. Each applicant needs to be reviewed and screened by multiple people. The intern application process is straight forward. We ask that people send cover letters and resumes to a position specific email address. We often ask them to also include other pertinent information to that same email. Things like GitHub username and project links are common asks for our engineering positions.

My Summer of Code

PHP was the first server-side web development language that I learned, and for the better part of the last decade I’ve worked almost exclusively in it. I started out writing these overly complex, custom-scripted websites, moved on to building within frameworks (CakePHP was my weapon of choice), and eventually jumped into Drupal. Here’s what’s bothering me - through each of these transitions, I find myself writing less and less code.
